Re: Operation Whiskey Barrel
So as far as recipe goes, what do we want to do? I'm not opposed to everyone brewing the same exact recipe, but I think it would be cool if it was a little more open to interpretation.
Howoe, Ellis, and myself all produced different stouts, and I think if everyone kinda did their own thing it would be real unique. I'll go through my notes and post an updated recipe, but it should be more of guideline than anything. I'd love to Ellis' recipe up as well, and see what everyone comes up with. As long as 10 batches of heavy stout go in the barrel I dont think we can wrong!
I also checked out the basement at work today, the far side stays much cooler, but the barrel would be right out in the open. The separate room we originally talked about heats up real quick and just isnt a good option for this. New ideas?

I like your idea of making individual stouts and blending in the barrel. How do we share the cost of material if brew this way.Do we brew our own beer and thats our contribution to the project and if you don't brew and want in. you pay in to the club? i'm just talking about brew material only not contributing to cost of barrel.HB.

Re: Operation Whiskey Barrel
I agree, thats a great idea! I like the ideas of the blends as well! What are you thinking of for guidelines? My thoughts would be OG and maybe limit off the wall ingredients or the like?

I'd say 1.080 and 40 IBU as a base line.I don't think it makes sents to use oatmeal, coffee, chocalate,or any flavors like that unless we all did.we'll get vanilla flavor from the oak barrel.maybe we should post the recipe were going to use before we brew so as a club can discuss it.Or just go for it damm it what goes in the barrel goes in the barrel.HB>

Re: Operation Whiskey Barrel
Yea I'd say as long as everyone stayed within the style guides for an imperial stout, we'd be good. The ibu won't really matter after the aging, and keep the spices out. If someone doesn't want to make their own recipe there will be plenty on here to choose from
Re: Operation Whiskey Barrel
Just got done brewing the my part of the stout. Here are my stats -
OG - 1.082
IBU - 57
SRM - 37
Yeast used - Safale US-05
Happy brewing everyone! Can't wait to blend this thing!

Re: Operation Whiskey Barrel
I know we got 15 gallons of imperial stout ready for the barrel, I think my old man said he had everything together, but I'm not 100% sure. I'll try to get an answer if he doesn't jump on here
Re: Operation Whiskey Barrel
We tried a sample of ours pre-barrel, pretty happy with the results, any one else tried their batches yet?
Re: Operation Whiskey Barrel
When will we fill the barrel? Need to move this beer! Excited!

RE:OPERATION WHISKEY BARREL
I tried mine it's good but It seems to be missing something,Maybe a little charred oak flavor would do it.HaHa.
